Patient Care Philosophy

The creation of our new and innovative surgical wellness center springs from my need to give back and my desire to revolutionize surgical care in our community. I am honored to work alongside my passionate team members who share my dream and love for our patients and our community.

Personal Information

I was born in Hong Kong and immigrated to San Francisco at the age of 15. High school was no simple task for a new immigrant even in a diverse city. My parents’ belief in higher education afforded me the opportunity to become the first to finish college and achieve doctorate degrees. Lessons learned while overcoming adversity and challenges proved to be the building blocks for my journey from Asian immigrant to living the American dream. My life experiences have strengthened my belief in Steve Jobs’ wise words, “Do not waste time living someone else’s life and don’t be trapped by dogma, which is the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice.” Most importantly, “Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.”

My commitment to my profession is reflected in my professional involvement in numerous boards, national committees and teaching. I am an affiliated associate professor of the Department of Surgery, Division of Gastrointestinal and General Surgery for OHSU School of Medicine. I am a member of the ACHQC QI Committee, Surgeon Specific Registry Planning Committee, and SHAIR Collaborative Clinical Leadership Committee to improve the surgical patient outcomes nationally and globally. My philanthropy also extends overseas as a volunteer for Cascade Medical Team and its Guatemala Medical and Surgical Missions. Locally, I support Oregon Cancer Foundation which in turn supports cancer patients in our community.
