Boutique offers support to cancer patients

When Andrea Wolf was diagnosed with a form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 2013, she discovered a new purpose for her life—to help and support others going through cancer. She’s now taken that passion and combined it with her longtime dream of owning a boutique.

“Growing up, I always felt like I was born in the wrong decade,” Andrea says. “So, when I opened my boutique, I brought all my favorite decades together to create what I hope is a very inviting place.”

With its vintage décor and charm, Remember the Moon Boutique on Main Street in Springfield, offers unique gifts, greeting cards, art and clothing. It’s also home to Cynthia’s, which provides mastectomy bras, camisoles, swimsuits and prosthesis for breast cancer survivors, as well as custom fittings. A variety of hats and headpieces are also available for women who’ve lost their hair due to medical illness.

“My goal was to create a store where survivors could have a personal fitting in a comfortable environment,” Andrea says. “Many people are tired of being in a clinical, medical environment, so it’s nice to be somewhere that feels normal, because that’s what you want your life to become.”

After her cancer diagnosis six years ago, Andrea joined Positive Community Kitchen to help provide nutritious meals to patients facing life-threatening illnesses, and she continues to serve on the nonprofit’s board of directors.

Andrea also worked as a patient navigator at Willamette Valley Cancer Institute, connecting patients with resources in the community. Purchasing Cynthia’s and opening Remember the Moon Boutique now allows Andrea to support cancer patients in a new way.

“Hopefully, I’ve created a space that doesn’t feel like a cancer store; it just feels like a fun boutique and ‘Oh, by the way, I have to get a breast form and a bra.'”

Remember the Moon Boutique, featuring Cynthia’s, is open Monday through Thursday and is located at 347 Main St. in Springfield, Oregon. Post-mastectomy fittings are available Monday through Saturday and can be scheduled by calling 541-345-9204. Andrea does bill insurance.
